Shock

When I got back from my ride yesterday, I noticed oil leaking from my Fox Float RP2 rear shock. The leak was from behind where the red circular rebound adjuster and propedal switch is, between there and where it attaches to the shock housing itself. I assume that it is an o-ring/seal leaking behind the rebound adjust. So, I guess my question is, what is the best stl shop to get this serviced?

Is there a local shop that performs shock maintenance regularly, and might have the replacement parts on hand? It seems like it may be fairly routine, but I will probably have seals/oil changed and etc since it will be off anyways, and want to get it done right. Thanks a lot, guys and gals.

Until last year, Fox wanted all repairs done in house. They've done some training for shop peeps for their forks (and you can finally get the small internal parts), but afaik they still want rear shocks sent back for service. I can't remember if Fox offers the custom valving/setup for your weight and riding style the way Push does, so you'd have to check with them on that. The people here locally who have had Push redo their forks love 'em, so if you gotta get it rebuilt anyway, you may as well consider them a decent way to proceed. Please pass along your experiences once your bike is back together. I'm sure more than one of the forum members will thank you for it.

Might even get a brew or two out of it! Just a small update here. I sent it off last week to Push in Littleton, CO. They called me saying they got it in, and did an initial sort of inspection.

In doing this, they found that the stanchoin body had a few rock nicks in it and recommended replacing it for about $30. So the rebuild I asked them to do is $130, plus the $30 body, and like $10 shipping. Still not bad honestly compared to getting a new shock for at LEAST double the price, if not $400+. Also, when you decide to send it in, you fill out a form on their site prior. This form asks your riding weight, pressure used, riding style (plush, trail, race, big hit, etc.) and any other comments you have.

So that's pretty cool. It will be customized, and better than new, for pretty cheap. I'm hoping to get it back mid next week. I'll keep you guys posted. I got mine PUSHed last winter, had the big hit kit put in it.

I was getting a wallowing feel with the shock and it bottomed out a lot despite a ton of air pressure. All that is gone now and it has an amazingly plush bottomless feel to it. I think my bill was around $150, well worth it. Before that though I did the cheap Fox rebuild as mine was leaking. It was pretty easy but like all plumbing I attempt it leaked when I put it together. Had to take it apart and try again and this time it was OK. Fox recommends doing this like every season.

I plan to send my fork to PUSH this winter, it just doesn't have the plush feel the shock now has. Got it back yesterday in their neat little PUSH branded box. About $10 for shipping. Grand total: $130 rebuild + $30 new body + $10 shipping = $170. Still not bad IMO. It had a little card saying what was done with 'Happy trails!'

Written on there, a bag of all my old seals and etc, and a nice sheet of stickers! It certainly feels like a new shock again.

The propedal switch's action is nice and crisp, it's completely silent, and feels overall perfect. I did not do the $40 'tuning', so it is essentially the same as new, but it does feel a bit better than I remember. It is a tad more firm/compliant, and just doesn't move quite as much. That is a good thing. The customer service through the whole process was outstanding, the people there were way cool, they wouldn't charge you without calling first, and the turnaround time was pretty good.

Fox Float Rp2 Rear Shock Set Up

2 days there, 2-3 getting worked on, 2 days back. Overall, I'm a very happy camper. Couldn't ask for anything more.
