Guys, I am struggling trying to make an R7 antenna live again. After cleaning all the corrosion from the connections and rebuilding the matchbox I am having only minor luck getting each band to show minimum SWR where the instructions say it should. I checked all of the traps and they look and test good. I am using the tubing lengths shown in the manual. Here is the question: I am seeing that the 10 meter trap has one more turn than the 12 meter trap. I don't think the previous owner did this as the factory shrink tube is still there.

The trap's resonant frequency depends on both the capacitance and the number of turns-it is certainly possible for the 10M trap to have more turns if the capacitance is significantly lower.
But, it is also possible for used antennas to never have been assembled correctly in the first place. You really want to measure the resonant frequency. Even if you know that the trap is original, nobody actually knows how the materials in question might change with age and weather exposure. There might even be something unexpected inside the trap.
