I have had this problem before and am almost certain that it was the RAM so bought some new which ironically came today, just before the problem occured =/. The last time my friend formatted it for me. I was running vista and have only one hard drive.

It is an ASUS motherboard. Put your xp disk in the cd rom when you boot up keep your finger on the f9 or f10 key and select boot from cd rom. You will be able to reformat from this and then install xp. If that dont work you can do this from the bios. Put your winxp disk in the drive then when in your bios settings you have to go to the bootup options and select it to start up from your cd rom first.then save the changes and reboot it should start up the xp disk and follow options for formatting and installation.
