I would like some help with configuring my E1000 and Cisco Connect software. My network consists of a Linksys wrt54g2 router connected to my comcast modem.

Then the wrt54g2 has a cat6 cable going from it (in my network closet) to the E1000 in my living room. My E1000 is then used to connect to several devices (tv, tivo, blu ray, wd live are wired. Laptops, iphone wireless).

With that said, DHCP is turned off on the E1000. So, when I configured it originally, I did everything manually. So, I assume, since it's not directly connected to my main PC, I can't get the Cisco Connect software to install on my main PC. I would like to be able to configure the Guest account, etc.

Linksys E1000 Firmware Upgrade

On the router but since the software won't install, I have been unsuccessful. Anyone have a simlar situation or could offer some info to help with this issue? One reason I want to get into the guest settings is to set up a password. Does anyone know if the guest account comes enabled or disabled? Thanks for the reply.

I was afraid someone would say that is the only remedy. Is there a way to save all the settings on my PC (before I do the reset) and then configure it as you suggested, and then import my previously saved settings back into the router while still having the Cisco software work? I've just got things set up exactly as I like. All of my devices are working accordingly and I fear that resetting and starting over might mess something up. EDIT: i guess I am just asking this because I am using this E1000 as I described above so if I reset and get the cisco software to work and then I do turn DHCP off and all my other settings, will it then still be able to be recognized by my pc? OK, thanks for the reply.

I just went to the linksys site and see they have a newer firmware. Looks like I will end up just losing all of my settings and updating firmware after all. But, if I do this and then I install the Cisco Connect software, manually reconfigure it as I have it now (turn off DHCP, etc.) then I should be able to still access the Cisco software in the future, right? IOW is there any changes I might do to the router that may make me not able to run the Cisoco software in the future? Sorry for all the questions. OK, thanks for the info.

I have not heard about that. Leaves me in yet another diemma.

I'm used to the web browser interface but if the Cisco software will enable me to do everything the web interface does (and more) then I can deal with that. The problem comes in due to how I have my network connected. This is where I need advanced help.

My 'main' pc is wired. This is where I do everything. It is not directly connected to the E1000. It goes to another router in my network closet and that router is connected with a cat 6 cable to my E1000 in another location. So, would I need to install the Cisco software and somehow configure the E1000 through my network or would I be better off bringing the E1000 in this room and connecting it directly to my main pc? Well, I got my answer. I brought the router into my pc room and connected it directly to my main pc.

Configured the Guest account (main thing I wanted to do). Then I went to the advanced settings (via web browser) and changed some other settings I needed. Mainly I wanted the IP address changed and I set up security.

I also changed the password. Sure enough, after that it wouldn't let me go back into the software. It's not a huge deal but it really shouldn't be buggy like this. Anyone figured out why this happens or a way to avoid it? I can't imagine it would be difficult to add Guest Account to the browser page. Wait for e4200 cisco connect software. I think it's way better and maybe they will come up with software that works with older version-e1000/2000/3000 You can't load up cisco connect software again because your pc connected to the e1000 dont have ip address anymore since your dhcp server is disabled.

Why not enable your dhcp server just change the router ip in a way it wont create ip conflict with your wrt54g router then you can use cisco connect again including guest account guest account by the way has a diff ip with your main account it's 192.168.33.x.
